I’ve been trying not to get myself upset over the fact that I’ll be leaving Ireland in a scant 6 weeks, especially since I’m not even sure if I’ll be coming back any time soon. K now I’m getting upset.
Anyways, to cheer myself up about going home I’ve been thinking a lot about all the things I’ve missed. Weekly swing dancing is at the top of the list, followed by ren faires (I’ll be home in time for a few in the fall!), but mostly it’s food. I’m not sure what to make of that.
But seriously — carnitas burritos, sushi, tamales, cherry pork, diet Vanilla Coke.. I’ve missed these things. And fuji apples. And Arizona Plum Tea. And Eggo waffles. There’s just not the variety of things available in the grocery store here. I miss pomegranates that are actually edible. And pumpkin pie mix. And pre-shaped, frozen cookie dough. There’s a lot of restaurants I’m eager to visit, like Chevys and CPK and Jamba Juice and god even Dennys so I can have a decent pancake.
I miss Bay Area radio stations, a LOT. And good bars with karaoke nights.
I also miss some stores, like Target. And Grocery Outlet. And good thrift stores. And the Oakland farmers market. And I’ve missed BevMo. A lot. Although I was ecstatic to find that the liquor shop around the corner had stocked 2 bottles of my favoritest booze. And I bought both of them.
It looks like I either miss food or places to spend money. God, I’m shallow. Okay, I’ve missed California weather, although we’ve had a good stretch of sunny days here for the past month. And I’m looking forward to having a car again.
And I’m really looking forward to seeing my crazy California friends again, and my really crazy faire friends, and a certain 3-year old who knows the name of 3 different Lovecraft Deep Ones and recognizes them on sight.
So, yeah, trying to think positive. The first time I left Ireland, I cried most of the flight home. I’m sure I’ll do it again this time, but I’m also glad to be going home. I just wish I knew how long I’d be there, or where I want to be.

Hey, it’ll be alright. We all miss you too. Do you have someone to pick you up from the airport?
Let me know.

Your crazy California friends look forward to seeing you, too!
Six weeks? Damn. Squeeze the most out of it, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you.
I wish I was a crazy California friend. If you come out for the MN Renfaire, I can get a friend to get you in free! Isn’t that enough to visit?
