accepting the worst

Called my aunt in Riverside to make sure her absolutely awesome house wasn’t being burnt down by the fires, and she told me that my grandmother was going to undergo eye surgery.
And they weren’t all that hopeful that she’d be able to keep her vision in one eye.
My grandmother just turned 89. She’s had one [...]

regrets part two

The other night Joe and I were at a California Pizza Kitchen. This was also a day or so after Joe had aquired a Clie, and now takes it with him wherever he goes (which, it being an organizer, is acceptable). Clies are truly neet-o. They can record video, take pictures, store mp3s, and hook [...]

regrets

I am a bad dog owner.
I demanded a dog for my 12th birthday, arbitratily picked a beagle without really knowing what one looked like, never trained her, and left all responsibilities regarding feeding and walking her to my parents. Walking the dog was a chore, and I rarely enjoyed doing it.
Then I came home for [...]

worm butt

The cat has tapeworms. The dog eats the cat’s poo, which means the dog also has tapeworms. There goes another $100.
It’s nothing urgent; we’ll bring them into the clinic tomorrow and they’ll get some meds and that’s that. Perfectly treatable.
Yaji still hasn’t had the last round of his shots, which is probably why this happened, [...]

lo-fucking-l

This morning I slept in, read my book, ate some thai peanut noodles, and started planning out my Saturday. That alone would be enough to make me cheerful.
Then, and this is the short version, I read a friend’s blog entry in which she properly cuts her ex-boyfriend down to size. And I’m very happy and [...]

thoughts from work

I am doing a number on my stomach with all the coffee I’ve started drinking.
The baby carrots from the veggie platter left in the kitchen are unreasonably small. They should call them premie carrots. Or fetal carrots.
Carrots and coffee do not go together.
Someone left a tiny box of binder clips on my desk this morning. [...]

crayons are not for eating, even if they are named after a smoothie

So a while back there was this contest on Crayola.com, wherein they were chucking out some old colors and wanted names for some new colors. They finally decided on new names and posted the results on their site:
Introducing our four new Crayola Crayon names! In January, we asked crayon fans all over the country to [...]

we couldn’t afford any souvineers

We drove back from Riverside on I-5. There was some amazing fire east of the highway; we couldn’t see what was burning the the smoke was so thick from far away it looked like clouds and the planes like tiny dragonflies. Before that, we were delayed for a while because a beer truck had caught [...]

the scales

Reasons to stay in California:
Boyfriend
Dog
Swing dancing
Renaissance faires
Friends
Nesting Instinct
Reasons to leave California and fuck off to Europe:
Our new Governor
An unhealthy idolization of Audrey Tautou
Friends abroad whom I may never see again
The fear that the longer I stay the harder it will be to go and suddenly it will be too late and I’ll be 80 and [...]

the rules

The Rules to Surviving Data Entry:
1. Always have caffiene readily available, and don’t be picky. If they’ve got a coffee maker and free coffee, use it. If you drink it fast enough you won’t be able to taste it anyways, especially if you make it very VERY hot.
2. Bring music. Lots of it. Your favorite [...]
